As fresh hop and Oktoberfest seasons near their end, we suddenly find ourselves with a ton of news about new openings and closings. As Oregon continues to reckon with the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and the drop in craft beer sales, we have been seeing the closures of breweries like Oakshire, one of Eugene's bedrock breweries (see below). Yet even as the industry struggles, new breweries are opening along with satellite taprooms, showing how resilient craft beer is in Oregon.

|
Pelican Opens in Yachats
Pelican Brewing has opened its latest pub in Yachats after a substantial remodel of the former Blue Whale restaurant. The pub features 3,000 square feet for indoor dining as well as a wrap-around deck for outdoor seating.

Oakshire Closing
Big news in Eugene: "After 20 years, Oakshire is closing its brewery and taprooms. Oakshire Commons in Springfield will close after Sunday, 9/27 and The Beer Hall in NE Portland will close after service on 9/30."

Freebridge Riverfront
Freebridge Brewing has opened a new riverfront taproom in The Dalles. With a grassy lawn and beautiful views, the new riverfront location has pizza, 8 taps, shady picnic tables, and a great setting for the whole family.

Buoy Acquired
Buoy Beer is merging with Ninkasi's ownership group, Great Frontier Holdings. Wrote Buoy: "We’ve faced a lot of the same challenges that many of our friends in the industry have over the last handful of years."

"The previous collapse of our main facility and iconic restaurant has proved to be too much for us to fully overcome." Customers won't notice a change, howerer: "We will continue to operate businesses in Astoria including Pilot House Distilling, our Astoria tasting room (Buoy Beer + Pilot House) and our Cannon Beach Tasting Room (Pilot House) moving forward."

Boneyard Closes Pub
Boneyard's original Bend brewery and taproom are staying open, but parent company Deschutes has closed their second, satellite pub.

Ballpark Fresh Hops
On Oct 3rd, head down to the Hillsboro Hops ballpark for fresh hops! The event will showcase fresh hop beers while providing attendees with the opportunity to experience the new ballpark.

Cheers to the Land Returns
John’s Marketplace is hosting the annual launch party for Cheers to the Land on October 10th— a campaign by Oregon Agricultural Trust that invites breweries and cideries across the state to support Oregon farmers by creating beers and ciders featuring ingredients grown on Oregon farms.

Alongside the beer fest, a free pop-up farmers’ market featuring Oregon growers is open to everyone, no ticket required. Participating breweries: Baerlic, Breakside, Claim 52, Deschutes, Falling Sky, Ferment, Freebridge, Gigantic, Hopworks, Old Standby, Silver Falls, Rusty Truck, The Wheel Apizza, Threshold, Wolves & People, and Xicha.

The proceeds benefit our nonprofit, which means you can look gorgeous and support efforts like this free newsletter. You know Oregon is a special place for beer--now you can let others know, too!
A special shout-out to our collaborators at Double Mountain Brewery, who helped us coordinate with Brewery Branding (hey, that’s a local company, too!) to host our merch on their site.
