Celebrating Oregon Beer

Your fortnightly round-up of all the beer and hop news from the Beaver State.

Hi everyone,

Today's email is a truncated version due to travel conflicts by the drafter. Nevertheless, we still have some big news and a reminder that Zwickelmania is this Saturday! You can visit the Oregon Brewers Guild website to find out what your local brewery has planned. And while you've got your calendar out, please put SheBrew on it, too. The 11th edition of this wonderful showcase of Oregon's women brewers happens March 7th. Both of these are one-of-a-kind events unique to Oregon. Enjoy them!

News

Brewery Collective Born

Very big central Oregon news: Crux, Silver Moon, Cascade Lakes, GoodLife, and Tumalo Cider are joining forces under a newly formed coalition named Oregon Beverage Collective.

Self-Distro Collective Born

As consolidation increases among distributors (Columbia recently acquired Portland's Point Blank), a collective has banded together to form GoSelfDistro. At their website, retailers can order from among (currently) 17 breweries and four cideries.

Rogue Auction Begins

Rogue's bankruptcy liquidation sale will begin this week, with 800 items for sale including the brewery, tanks, pallets of ingredients, barrels, and literally everything Rogue owned.

Laurelwood Turns 25

One of Oregon's great second-gen breweries hits a major milestone with their 25th anniversary. Despite closing their pub, Laurelwood keeps making beer and will celebrate their anniversary with three return classics: Coffee Stout, Free Range Red, and Red Elephant.

Zwickelmania

Oregon's biggest party happens this Saturday as 58 breweries statewide will open their brewhouses to visitors. Craft beer fans can expect a bunch of fun stuff, including samples directly from the tank (which gives this event its name), beer releases, tours, meet-the-brewer opportunities, educational talks, food and beer pairings, specials, and more. In Portland, there is even a free shuttle bus making stops at 16 breweries.

It's a great chance to get to know your favorite brewery a little better, or use the day to visit a new brewery. The Oregon Brewers Guild has a brewery-by-brewery list of events, so check that out before you go.

Happy Zwickeling!

SheBrew!

SheBrew is a family-friendly beer and cider festival showcasing scores of professional female brewers and cider-makers from the Pacific Northwest. This year's event will be held at the Portland Art Museum over two sessions on Saturday, March 7th.

The fest not only is a celebration of female brewers and cider makers; SheBrew also honors equality and supports all women and the LGBTQ+ community. 100% of the fest proceeds to go to the Human Rights Campaign, with the Oregon Brew Crew receiving proceeds from the competition. It's a truly unique event and an Oregon original.

Celebrating Oregon Beer Your fortnightly round-up of all the beer and hop news from the Beaver State. Do you recall the "Drink Beer for Science" study we mentioned last fall? Led by Oregon State's Dr. Tom Shellhammer, it investigated drinkers' response to beers made with and without fresh hops. Hundreds of people tasted the beers side-by-side as a part of that research. Next week, Dr. Shellhammer, brewers from the study, and Celebrate Oregon Beer's Jeff Alworth will present the results at the...

Celebrating Oregon Beer Your fortnightly round-up of all the beer and hop news from the Beaver State. Over the past two weekends, several dozen judges have gathered in Breakside's drafty warehouse to identify Oregon's best beers.
