Celebrate Oregon Beer Newsletter

Celebrating Oregon Beer

Your fortnightly round-up of all the beer and hop news from the Beaver State.

After a brief hiatus, the newsletter is back where you expect it--in your inbox every other Wednesday. In our absence, the world began making the transition from fresh hop beers and Oktoberfests to pumpkin beers and Halloweens. Since we missed one edition of the newsletter, we have an extra full slate of news, so let's get to it!

News

Cheers to the Land 2025

One of the most exciting and ambitious collaborations of the year launched Oct 10th. Cheers to the Land is a collaboration between Oregon’s craft beverage makers and Oregon Agricultural Trust (OAT).

Each year, OAT invites brewers around the state to create new beverages with ingredients grown on Oregon farms. The brews are released around National Farmer’s Day each October and we celebrate throughout the month with events as well as opportunities to buy the products in stores. Visit Xicha Brewing on October 25th to try six of the beers.

GABF Winners

Oregon had another strong showing at the Great American Beer Fest, winning 29 medals. Months-old UPP Liquids from Bend was Oregon's biggest winner, taking home five medals and brewery of the year. Eight of the medals went to women-led breweries.

OBA Fresh Hops

In other competition, the Oregon Beer Awards had their seasonal fresh hop competition. Categories included regular and hazy IPAs and pales, and a catchall category for other styles.

2025 Hop Crop

Hop acreage may be stabilizing, and the quality of the 2025 crop was excellent--but times are still tough for farmers. Fortunately, the inventory of hops, which has been too high for years, was down 15% in 2025.

Pelican Rockaway Open

Pelican Brewing's fifth coastal location opened in Rockaway Beach on Oct. 17. “This space is a mini version of the Pelican experience," Co-founder Mary Jones said--but it will still feature a full menu and lots of Pelican beer.

Thora Introduced

The Hop Quality Group, working with USDA breeder John Henning in Corvallis, has named its first hop. From the Old Norse meaning "thunder," Thora now enters the commercial market.

New Beer at Number 1

And finally, news from the world of big beer. Modelo overtook Bud Light as the US's #1 beer a couple years ago, but AB InBev is back on top--thanks in part to the current tariffs.
